Oh, Kiwi...

1/2/2018

As Suse Studio is closing down, I am trying to learn kiwi.
If that is hard and needs more time that I can spend, I will try OBS
If I manage to work with any of them, I may post a new image of a CEELD version.
Wish me luck.

Just a slight link update for Lighter CEELD

A user has complained about not being able to install to USB stick.
I tried to download again and install Lihgter CEELD and everything went fine.
In doing so I noticed I had an older version of the ISO uploaded on my 4shared account and I fixed it.

Have fun!

I am working again on an update of the normal CEELD.
I have it working already, based on Leap 42.1.

Soon I will update the download links.
At the moment everyone can test it in the SUSE studio. There is a new version in the gallery.
Thanks.

Lighter CEELD

I decided that I had enough free time so I could test my nerves with Suse studio.
Don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful tool to make a custom linux, but it is so time consuming to have a nice result. Hey, it is much-much easier and faster than crafting everything by a text editor, OK? I just wished it was an experience as it can really be.

I tried building CEELD again, but things didn't work out too good. I decided to build another completely new bulit from scratch.
I also thought that returning to XFCE and skipping some of the least used programs, especially those using KDE libraries, was a good idea. So 'Lighter CEELD' was born.
It is not 'Light', it still is a bit over a CD in size, and I am sure it can be trimmed down some more but I have not the courage to do it, so it became 'Lighter'.

Anyway I encourage you to try it. It may be not as polished as other distros out there, but it is functional and I believe easy to use. It is best to download a version, Live-DVD or VirtualBox, and use it on your machine. SuseStudio's Testdrive is problematic.
Login as tux with password 'linux' and use it as much as you can. Root's password is 'linux' as well. I will be grateful for your feedback.

Have fun!

Bad news

Well,
how should I say this, I have no more motivation to keep stealing time from other things for CEELD maintenance. For improvement there was no time long ago.

Besides work, family gets the best of my "free" time and the next thing is that I started tackling Android development. I already have some hardware projects left aside. I would like to finish a thing with ARM Cortex, and another with ISM band RF transceiver modules, but the earth has only 24 hours each day... and I sleep the 6 of them.

So this is it.
CEELD gets frozen for unspecified time.
Hopefully this site will be an inspiration for some engineers to spent some time with linux  applications and open source software for electronics, and maybe for open hardware as well. And why not, one of you can make a better distro for us all.

I want to thank all the people that have shared their thoughts with me, their ideas, their offers for help and the most appreciated contributions. Contributions of moral support and personal effort. Thank you guys!!!

Have fun, whatever you do!
Theodore.

Now CEELD is based on Open Suse 12.1

Hi all!
I've been busy  always, but finally I managed to update our distro!

Now it is based on 12.1 and all packages have the newest available, cutting edge, version number.
That is many changes have taken place, but the whereabouts of the distro  are the same.
Just one change of the default background, as we started the 0.3 series, otherwise the looks are the same.
I have used this:

It is the "Bug in the circuit" by SnowPoring from DeviantArt
I hope you like it.
If you do like or dislike, or you have any comment about  CEELD please say it!

Have Fun :)

After reading this article in Hackaday, I decided to give it a try...
Actually it is very easy.
Anyone with a little skill in merging two pictures can make it. As long as you don't cover more than 30% of the informational dots, of course!

Picture
This actually works, and points to this site, no surprises there...

Just a black variation of the above.

Have fun with QR!

Version 0.2.0 is here! ...finaly...

The long delayed move to Open Suse 11.4 as the base for CEELD has been made at last.
Together with the base, almost all electronics related software is updated as well.

I hope this version is what everybody wanted and I wish that it works perfect for everyone!

The other thing changed is the default wallpaper, I grabbed one from www.desktopnexus.com, this one to be more specific.
It was uploaded by Deepak Gajjar. As the site says, if I understand it correctly, it is free for non-commercial use and this is quite so.
Anyway feel free to change it as you like. I just liked the idea of something technological being so "alive"!

P.S. The logo stayed the same. If you have some good idea, please share it with us.

Have Fun!
